Remove KDE 3
General No Comments »After successfully moving from Kubuntu 8.04 to Kubuntu 8.10 and not needing the KDE 3 applications anymore.
I became aware that there are a few people that do not know how to safely remove KDE 3 applications that are left on their systems after upgrading.
Therefore the below code should help you to some extent.
sudo apt-get --purge remove kdelibs4c2a
sudo apt-get autoremove
Forum Spam: Trick or Treat?
Forum Software No Comments »
There is a number of ways out there that allows you to deal with forum spam and some are quite ineffective and others more effective than most.
It’s something that has been much discussed recently and with the recurrences and prolonged effect it is having on all our forum’s we need to treat this with the full attention it deserves.
There is never a concrete way of dealing with forum spam and it can always be bypassed at this moment in time.
I don’t think this issue will be removed 100% but there are things that you can do to protect your forum’s out there that people are always working on to improve which you can find in most forum software’s these days.
Captcha systems are not that effective as people previously thought as many are getting cracked in a matter of minutes if not seconds as it’s been reported so people need to be looking at other ways in which they can protect their websites.
It’s important not to rely on these Captcha systems because for me personally I don’t believe they are the way forward to protect forum’s.
One thing is for sure, forum spam is not a treat when it’s effecting your communities as it can be a problematic issue to manage on a consistent basis which is why there are many people working on new techniques in which can counter that approach.
I have also been working on a way of containing it in forum software and I believe I might of just come up with an effective way which will not effect the forum discussion in anyway and render the initial spam post as useless.
Which is something am working on at the moment at JaBB to improve so that it can have the desired effect on containing spam in any forum.
Sarah Connor Chronicles axed?
General No Comments »
It’s been reported on DigitalSpy that they are axing the Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles show which is currently in it’s second season.
I have to say that after watching the first season and the first 4 episodes of the second season I’ve always liked this show.
It’s one of the best shows that is on TV at the moment in my opinion and I cannot believe they would think of axing this show just because the ratings on Prison Break or even the show itself are not up too the standard they would like to have.
The Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles needs more time to develop and that is just like the rest of their popular programmes which have had that time too develop and become successful.
I hope that they are just going reschedule the programme to a different time slot rather than completely remove it from there scheduling line up.
Because the development in the story is getting far great in the second series and there seems to be more insight into everything that is going on in the show.
And the factor that remains of not knowing what is going to happen in the next episode is always going to get people to watch it being on the TV or the Internet.
I think if Fox does come to the conclusion that they are going to axe it they will be making a mistake as this show has great potential and it’s not really got started yet either which is more so the reason it needs time too develop further.
I read that one of the Prison Break cast said that they thought their show Prison Break would not last much longer.
So it would be pretty idiotic if the people at Fox don’t take note of that because axing the Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles show is not the answer at all.
I can never get how the people that own these TV networks never give it a chance to take off and when all fails they just pull the plug never considering the fans that are watching this show and want to know what happens next.
And I just think it’s unbelievably selfish of Fox if they do go ahead and remove this from our television screens.
I just hope that the fans of Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles that want the show to stay on air like me voice their concerns over such news as soon as possible so that we don’t lose another great show on Fox if this is true.
